Heaven forbid I should be foolish enough to believe what the papers say, but after a generally quiet month on the transfer gossip front Chelsea have now been linked with a number of new targets over the past few days.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with Benfica trio Coentrao, Luiz and Di Maria and the latter – a tricky right winger just breaking into the Argentina national side – especially after Arnesen supposedly went to watch him play this week. Chelsea were linked with Di Maria back in January so there’s history to this one, but apparently Mourinho is looking to bring him to Inter too.
Chelsea are also hotly tipped to sign Jonathan de Guzman, a 21 year-old Canadian born Dutchman currently playing for Feyenoord. Feyenoord have well-reported cash problems at the moment and may have to offload Guzman, who plays in an attacking midfielder for the Dutch side, and Dutch national daily newspaper De Telegraaf think Chelsea have entered the race at the last minute to potentially scupper a move to Valencia.
Clearly Chelsea have been linked with a huge number of players over the last few months, and there’s nothing new to suggest that these rumours are any more reliable than the others. However with the close of the transfer window approaching, and Ancelotti seemingly changing his tack regarding the potential for new signings each week, it looks at least a little more likely that we’ll see a last minute scramble for either the winger or the creative playmaker Carlo craves. Perhaps in an over-inflated market the strategy is to leave it late and try and force better prices?
Who knows. But next Tuesday just might be a whole lot more interesting than we previously thought…
Whatever happened to us and that Assman keeper? I thought we were on the verge of signing him.

Assman...I remember. Think this may have been about signing him with the view to him joining in 2010?

Big shame that Di Maria chose Real Madrid, need someone with a bit of creativity.
